Galantis tour at Melkweg Amsterdam

Galantis Melkweg

Galantis needs no introduction. The Swedish duo consisting of Linus Eklöw and Christian Karlsson are a hit machine. You must have lived under a stone if you aren’t familiar with ‘Runaway (You & I)’ that recently got nominated for a Grammy. When we found out the duo was coming to the Netherlands we got very excited & arranged to be a part of it. On the 23rd of January it was time to head to Amsterdam & experience Galantis and support-act East & Young. Check out our experience below!

We wanted to be on time to also catch the set of East & Young, a duo that’s doing quite well. We saw them playing on the mainstage of Mysteryland last year so we expected another quality set. It turned out that loads of people also wanted to make sure they didn’t miss anything. The line almost reached the end of the street. Melkweg is famous location in Amsterdam with a nice balcony from which you got a great overview of the club.

East & Young started off with some known tracks like ‘I can’t feel my face’ and ‘shades of grey’ and then went a bit deeper with the cool Lucas and Steve remix of The Magican’s tune ‘Together’. Obviously they included the track which got them more known last year in their set: Rondé – Run (East & Young remix), their remix for the Galantis track ‘Gold Dust’ and played some unreleased gems. Overall a cool warm-up set with the unknown tracks & the remix of Run as highlights. One of the back then unknown track turned out to be their remix for The Knocks & Matthew Koma’s ‘I Wish’. A cool tune!

Galantis - Melkweg Amsterdam

Before Galantis could come on stage the stage needed to be adapted a bit to their live-set but the waiting only got the fans more excited and helped building up the tension. The Swedish duo didn’t hold back but instantly released all their energy which was very cool to witness. It should be mentioned that they took a minute to use the mic & thank all their fans for coming out. We could feel their emotion when they did that which was a special moment. As expected Galantis played ‘Runaway’ which made the whole club jump and sing-along. An edit of Calabria, probably made especially for their tour, caused everybody to wave their hands for the left to the right which gave an amazing view. The set contained not just their album tracks but they used enough variation with for example Valentino Khan’s ‘Deep Down Low’ and ‘Poison’ by Martin Garrix. For the last 2 track Galantis was accompanied by the mysterious Seafox girl which gave an extra dimension to their performance.

Conclusion

We had never had the chance to see Galantis live and now we can say with confidence that we understand why they have been playing at the mainstage of massive festivals & are nominated for a Grammy: the music is great & their energy and passion is infectious. A special mention goes out to East & Young who also during the very beginning of their set when it wasn’t totally crowded yet, played a super smooth set & tried to interact with the crowd. So, if you ever get the chance to see Galantis live, seize that opportunity, because you won’t be disappointed!
