On the 5th of May we visited Bevrijdingsfestival Zeeland in Vlissingen, located in the south of the Netherlands near the Belgium border. The event took place as a celebration of the Freedom which we are luckilly living in. Dubvision, who keep growing further in popularity, played there alongside amongst others Soundmill & Julian Jordan. We catched up with the Dutch duo when they came freshly off the stage after their set.
Hi guys, great set! Thanks for the opportunity to interview you guys!
No problem! Vlissingen goes hard! Great crowd here!
Yeah we definitely saw the crowd going crazy! Alright, we’re at the Freedom Festival here so my first question is: ‘What does Freedom actually mean to you guys?’
Good question! Well Freedom means that you can do basically everything, that you can be free & live in happiness. Next to that it means that you can travel across the globe. For us it’s so important to make our fans happy with our music across the globe.
Nice! So this edition of Freedom Festival is a rather special one, 70 years ago the second world-war ended & additionally this is the 25th edition of Freedom Festivals throughout the Netherlands. How does it feel to be playing here? Did you prepare a special set?
Yes indeed! We are aware of the fact that this is a special celebration. About our set, basically every set we play is unique. We do have a couple of tracks that we like so much we play them in every set but mostly we like to adapt to the crowd & the atmosphere. We like to play a lot of mashups in our sets.
Sounds good, so today we heard you play your latest track ‘Invincible’ which is a collab with Firebeatz ft. Ruby Prophet. We’re curious what else we can expect from you coming up.
Well we have a lot of collabs going on & planned with artists which we really look up to but we can’t say more about that. We suggest everybody pays attention to our Facebook & Twitter account to be the first to read about new tracks.
We can understand that. Who really inspires you and would you really like to make a track with if you had the chance?
Both Alesso and Calvin Harris are guys that really inspire us so it would be a dream coming through to work with them. We also would love to collab with for example coldplay, that has already been done but working with a similar group would be amazing.
We’re sure that if you’d make that happen it would be very interesting tracks! So about yourself, you’re brothers and now working together as a duo, but it hasn’t been like that from the very beginning. Could you tell us something about that?
Sure! We both had piano lessons and we think Viktor was the first one to start messing around trying to make music on the computer. We got together and tried to make something together & the cooperation went so well that the duo Dubvision was born.
Okay so who really inspired you in the beginning & has helped you becoming who & where you are now?
Sander van Doorn has really been a great help, we know him for a long time now. Axwell was one of the first to really showcase our tracks at the mainstage. Swedish House Maffia actually played one of our tracks during their ’Last Tour’ which felt like a great honor. Another person to mention here would be Martin Garrix who is obviously doing really well at the moment. He’s a good friend of us.
Alright, so what are your goals for this year? DJ MAG top 100? Ibiza?
Rankings are nice but they don’t mean everything to us. Despite that we’ll do some campaigns for the DJ Mag top 100 this year. Our main goal is creating great music for our fans to enjoy all around the world. Obviously Ibiza, Ultra, Tomorrowland & EDC would be extreme highlights. We would love to play for a sold out Heineken Music Hall one day!
We can imagine that playing for a sold out venue is always awesome. Okay, about your schedule, where will we be able to check you guys out playing soon?
Soon we’ll be flying to Bangkok for an event with Hardwell, Steve Aoki and more. Directly after that we’ll fly back to the Netherlands for the birthday of our grandpa & later on we’ll be doing an Asia tour. In the summer one of the events we’re really looking forward to is Mysteryland and obviously Tomorrowland.
Wow those are some nice summerplans & we like that you fly back home for your grandpa’s birthday. Thanks very much for this interview & we wish you the best of luck reaching your goals this year.
No problem thanks, enjoy your evening!
